Child Care Schools For Those Who Love Children by: Michael Bustamante
Word Count: 499 -- Number of views: 337 -- Comments (0)

Child care schools concern themselves with teaching skills and competencies for child care and child development. Students can choose programs to earn certificates or two-year associate degrees through vocational and trade schools, through community colleges, or in four-year or more institutions. There are also schools dedicated specifically to educating adults for providing child care. These schools offer certificate programs in child care and provide in-depth study of children and hands-on experience learning laboratory environments.

Trade and vocational child care schools have no educational prerequisites or experience requirements, however, participants attending any child care institutions may be required to pass background checks required by states. Students in any educational program must be qualified with reading and math skills to progress through any secondary educational programs, including child care programs.

Associate (AA, AS), Bachelor (BA, BS), Master (MA, MS), and Doctorate (PhD, EdD) degrees are possible in child care. Child care school students should anticipate courses in English, reading, writing, communications, psychology, math, and using computers. Courses may address educational games, child behavior, play groups, age-appropriate activities, and child growth and development. A child care education may also address scheduling, nutrition, nurturing, and what can be expected with regard to child socialization.

Course work may likely include development of skills for providing careful guidance of children, children with special needs, sign language, care of infants and toddlers, as well as school-age children, human and child development, and the responsibilities of paraprofessionals. Graduates will understand the importance of providing for health, safety, and appropriate environments for proper learning and development. Students learn how to care for children in family homes as well as in child care centers, nursery schools, preschool facilities, public and private schools.

Child care school students may be able to choose specializations in infant and toddler care, preschool, special needs, family child care, or administration. Other specializations may include child care facility food and nutrition programs, child care resource personnel, and referral agencies.

Graduates from child care programs can anticipate qualifying as professional nannies, assistant teachers and paraprofessionals in educational institutions and licensed child care facilities.
